First Cuenca museum, opens its doors in 1947 with the Municipal Historical archive: Cabildo's books and historical documents such as the Cuenca Foundation Act. I have works of arts and objects of the illustrious literary and political Remigio Crespo Toral and increased with donation and subsequent acquisitions. It is important to emphasize that it is the archaeological collection belonging to various Ecuadorian pre-hispanic cultures, as well as the colonial works of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that includes a significant collection of Christs, being those of the sculptor Cuencano José Miguel Vélez who most attract the attention.
